Ugh.
What made them stop blogging? All kinds of tragic events come to mind. But we don't know...they didn't blog about it.
Most likely, they just ran out of stuff to say. I will not let that stop ME though! If I can't outrun them, I can outblog them.
...............................................
I haven't posted about training in a while, so let's try that.
As I have mentioned, I am coached by Mike Smith of Kansas State. He coached me to all of best collegiate performances - despite my best efforts. He's been coaching me with the goal race as the US Championships at Grandma's Marathon next weekend. I've learned some very useful things, and it's nice to not second guess your own training plans. I know I'm getting good stuff from someone who knows what to do. Now I can focus on the PAIN.
I had a huge base going into the intense stuff, which started at the end of March. That was nice, so I could run 90-100 mpw in singles and not have to worry about anything. I seem to race well and maintain good sanity in that mileage range, so I think I stick there in the future, with the occasional mileage binge, of course.
Here are some key workouts that have got me all set to run fast next week:
3x2000m/2:30 on 2:30 off fartlek x 4/3x1600m (variations included 2x3000m and 3x1600m at start)
3 min @ 4:40 pace/ 3 min @ 5:10 pace/ 3 min @ 6:00 pace x 6 followed by 3x1000 fast
3x 4 mile tempos @ 4:50-55 pace (working up from 3x5k in April)
Those were the staple workouts with some variations throughout the last 2.5 months. I think I've worked myself to hold 64 minute half marathon pace pretty well, but also have been doing stuff slightly faster and slower than that so I can also maintain focus if the pace shifts around a lot, which I've had trouble with in the past.
Now some pictures ---
