Prudence

Remember when I said my competitiveness had been sapped by that terrible indoor mile last week?

That only lasted a few days I guess.

I check out the USATF website national championship section all the time, Lo! and behold! The USA 50 mile trail championship is in this park near San Antonio next week. I'm not saying I think I can win it, but if I can make it 50 miles, I think I have a shot.  I started thinking of all the cool stuff I could do on a 1300 mile trip right now.  The weather is better pretty much everywhere south of here, so I came up with the following:

-See my grandparents in the fine city of Fairbury, NE. (just kidding about Fairbury, that town creeps me out.) I would like to hear some stories of hard times growing up in rural Minnesota from my Grandpappy.)

-See my Parents on the farm in Green, KS.  I always want to go home in the spring when farm stuff is happening.  My family has lived here since 1906.

-See my sister in Lawrence, KS.  I love a lot about Lawrence, but I hate a lot about it too.  I mostly want to see what my sister's weird artsy life is like.

- See my brother in Newton, KS.  He is grown up and has a grown-up job and is taller and better looking than me.  I also never see him and he doesn't seem to be that interested in facebook or twitter, or blogs.  Like I said, he's a grown up (he's five years younger than me)

- See a bunch of buds in Manhattan, KS.  Manhattan is one of my favorite places on earth.  I'd love to drink some Tallgrass beer and watch a bunch of Rifftrax episodes with Danny and Kyle then go out and run a bunch with Kory.  I might have been able to talk Kory into coming too.

Oh, this would have been great.

Unfortunately I've decided to not be an idiot and just stay here in the tundra and run a lot of miles.  I love running on trails, and the trails here are snow or ice covered.  Also, it's 75 degrees in San Anton' right now. For once, though, I must keep my eyes on that proverbial prize.  I've got a couple more weeks of huge base-building, then I can sharpen up and try to rip off a few PRs.  Ultramarathons will have to wait.
