The last couple weeks have been different, but I've worked into a new kind of training phase for myself, while coaching the SDS kids, which is essentially just running with them and trying to articulate my love of the sport to them, because really, most of the things they will learn about running have to be experienced and not told to them by some old sage. Most days I run up to the school, about 3 miles, do about 8 miles of running with them, and then run back home, sometimes stopping for coffee along the way at the Third Place coffee shop on Glenwood. The people that work there undoubtedly want to kick me out for sweating all over their place, but they treat me like another hipster brother, even when I pay for my cup of coffee with small change. Since we've moved across town I'm also hitting up the track at Broughton High School. I think I'll be doing most threshold runs and slow intervals (my kids call them "Denton" intervals. I love it!) there. I'm trying to keep it simple but really whip myself into good shape again. I truly believe I can run 2:25 at Boston, which I know isn't amazing, but considering my marathon record, it's no small task. The goal for this week is to get up near 80 miles of solid running (not one 35 miler and a bunch of short runs) and then back down next week, I'd like to hover around 80-90 for a while, but we'll see what the ol' chassis has to say about that.
