It's been an odd couple of weeks, going back home and driving there and back. It didn't make running a whole lot easier of course. I ran most of the days, but I exhausted from all of the driving and activities, that I slept half the day and slept fitfully at night. I was able to slug out a few longer runs, but they didn't feel like they were of any benefit. Despite that, out of the running stupor I've been in, has grown a newfound desire to compete. I have now decided to train exclusively for the half-marathon in Raleigh in November, before starting marathon training for Boston. I'm using a self-modified plan from Brad Hudson's book
Run Faster which is a lot about self-coaching. If I'm using a book, I guess it's not really self-coaching, but I don't have any delusions that I'm that smart. Anyway, I'm starting mostly from scratch next week, making sure to make the workouts tough, the easy days easy and to take care of the chassis as well as the engine.
Oh, yeah, I did find a cool place in rural Illinois on the way to Kansas - the Tunnell Hill State trail. I got on in Vienna and had a nice little run, encountering a box turtle and a corn snake.
Here I am at the train station in Vienna, IL . Having to run with a shirt on at the private school is killing the tanness. This might be the worst abs I've had in a while too.
