So, I ran another 5k road race for no reason this past weekend. It was a fundraiser for the Raleigh Police Dept. (I think). It was downtown, so I knew it'd be a pretty fast course, and I could make a marathony workout out of it. I got up early and ran about 11 miles to warm up and to go get my number and chip. When the race started I still felt like I'd just gotten out of bed, I figured over an hour of warming up might help, but I guess not. Though I felt slow and crappy - I came through the first mile in 4:29. Something like way too fast. I'm not sure of the accuracy of mile markers, and I know their timers were off, but it was only a 5k. I felt like I held pace pretty well, but must have slowed down quite a bit, as I ran 14:44 via raleigh chiptiming (always a few seconds slow - my watch had 14:41.) I was planning on another 1o miles or so, but my tendonitis was flaring up a little, and I figured a jog home and a nap would be the best solution. I got up the next morning and got in a nice 21 miler and felt pretty good, so I guess I made the right call.
Grandma's is about six weeks away, and I'm still planning on showing up. I'm worried that the tendonitis in my foot/shin will be a big problem after 2 hours of hard running, but i've got a couple more weeks to make a sure decision.
