Last weekend I raced the Capital City Classic 1ok in downtown Raleigh. It's a neat little race. The director sets up elites really well and put together a cool course. We ran around downtown and didn't follow the usual downtown course. I didn't feel great however, so Bobby did all the work keeping pace and I just held on. He had run a 28:11 10k on the track just five days earlier, so I figured he'd be just tired enough to run my kind of pace. We came through the mile way too slow in 4:54, and kind of struggled to get things on pace. Through 5k in 14:58 I was a little worried we'd keep it close. We must have finally warmed up and a long stretch on Western Blvd. and back up Wilmington street let us stretch out a little bit and I started to feel better. I tried to do my share a little bit and lead, but going uphill I couldn't do it. With about a half mile left I went around and tried to make a last ditch effort to get back on pace, but Bobby pulled away strong in the last couple of blocks. I was really excited though to see the clock just ticking over 29:40 as we got close. Bobby won in 29:46 and I was in at 29:47. Finally under 3o and on a legit road course.
My tibialis anterior tendon and muscle are still giving me trouble, so I've got a few more days to decide whether or not it can last a marathon. If not I'll be racing for $ around Raleigh.
