I've been checking a lot of track results lately. The outdoor season is heating up finally. I miss running fast around those ovals, with crowds cheering, etc., but it's just not feasible to try that mess anymore. The NCSU team doesn't need a tag-along, and nobody else can train at a high enough level (sounds douchy, but I think it's true) Plus, marathoning and ultra-ing is new and exciting to me. I've been doing the same stuff for so long, that this is something I want to attack with that same fervor. I'm quite positive I could have been a decent miler (4:07 on DMR) if I had ever trained for it, and maybe this ultra stuff isn't what my body is designed for, but it looks like fun, and that's the plan for now.

more stuff and things
I'm relaxing right now with a frosty Rolling Rock. (I'm sorry I can't afford to get nothing but microbrews) I'm anxiously awaiting my first 3 hour trail run tomorrow. I headed out to REI (again) and discovered that they are having a whole store 20% off sale today only. I quickly acquired one of these, http://www.ultimatedirection.com/product.php?id=128&page=trailwaistpacks and some other junk. I guess my big problem in the coming months will be finding out exactly what is necessary to take with me on longer runs. I fancy myself a minimalist in many ways, but there are certain things I need to have to keep me from dying while running, and keep me from dying when I get myself lost on a trail somewhere. Tomorrow's run, I plan on just taking two handheld bottles, because I doubt i'll be swinging by a water fountain along the way. Some gel and blocks should keep my energized enough, and with adequate water, I'll be recovered and ready to hit the road again next week.
